Nepal Earthquake Response 2015

Thurles Lions Club responded immediately by donating €3,000 from its Charity Account.

The 2015 Nepal earthquake which killed more than 7,000 people and injured more than twice as many occurred on 25 April 2015, with a moment magnitude of 7.8Mw.  It was the most powerful disaster to strike Nepal since 1934.  Some casualties were also reported in the adjoining areas of India, China, and Bangladesh.

There was a huge international response to aid the people of the Philippines in their time of need.  Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) responded with an immediate release of $100,000 of aid to the disaster.

Thurles Lions Club responded immediately by donating €3,000 from its Charity Account.  This was used to procure a pallet of water treatment tablets in Wexford which were immediately dispatched to Nepal.  These tables treated 5m litres of water.

Thurles Lions Club organised a bucket collection appeal the following Saturday with permission from Thurles Gardai.  60 volunteers, Lions and friends of Lions including 16 girls from the local Ursuline Convent collected €8,500 in pouring rain from the generous people of Thurles for the Lions Earthquake Appeal.  All of these funds were routed through Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) which directed the funds directly to the people in need through the Lions Clubs in Nepal.
